A New Adventure for Monday Musings
In my last post of 2022, I shared some of the most interesting books I read over the course of the past year. But I’ve recently realized that over the last three years, I’ve consumed over 300 books.
Often, when I’m talking to clients and friends, I’ll share my perspective on the best way to do X, or my perspective on the challenges of Y, but I’m sometimes left thinking, “Why do I actually think that? Is it from direct experience, or from reading? From some pundit’s opinion, or from a professor’s peer-reviewed research?”
So I’ve spent a good chunk of the last couple of weeks reviewing my notes from each of the books I’ve read in an effort to drive clarity on those questions, and as a way to synthesize what I’ve learned.
For the next little bit here, Monday Musings will be the venue in which I share those lessons.
The exploration is focused on two areas: Being a Strategic Leader and Finding Joy, Meaning, and Satisfaction at Work. Some of the themes you’ll no doubt recognize, as I wrote about them when I first read the books and made connections. However, my hope is that this exercise yields both fresh and deeper insights.
This will be a journey—I haven’t even completed the first one—so you’ll be along for the ride. One aspiration of the project is for it to be a true conversation. So I’ll especially appreciate your thoughts and questions as I go.

In the meantime, I thought you might enjoy this video of Duke women's basketball coach Kara Lawson sharing a powerful outlook on effort and results that she tries to teach her players.
